Being a dad can be a hard task, especially when you’re fathering a daughter. Most dads fear that their precious daughter will end up with a loser, or someone they don’t like. This has created a stereotype that is: the overprotective dad.

While all dads want to make sure their daughters are safe, and they make the right decisions, it’s hard to separate your wants with hers. Dads shouldn’t go into their daughter’s relationships ready to harm her boyfriend.

Jeff Welch was quoted as saying “I ain’t raising no princess”, and posted this rule list for dating his daughter. It’s something all dads should take into consideration.

Jeff spoke further in his post saying that if you want to date his daughter, you have to ask her what the rules are. He also stated he didn’t want to be the typical creepy overbearing father we see too much of nowadays.

Jeff then goes on to say he’s raising his daughters to see to it that they deal with the issues their boyfriends present. “You will respect them, and if you don’t, I promise they won’t need my help putting you back in your place.”, Jeff was quoted as saying.

The new wave of dads taking advice from Jeff has already begun, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. We’ve seen many dads coming out as being pro-feminism, and raising their daughters to make their own life decisions, without interfering with an automatic weapon…

Jeff is raising five daughters, and has seen many t-shirts, and memes about the typical dad, and doesn’t find them funny. He decided to rebel in this the best way he could, by taking to the internet.

Jeff stated in an interview talking to Today “I get that. But the kind of posturing by fathers of daughters I was specifically responding to had nothing to do with that ‘protective instinct’ and everything to do with asserting their dominance over women and reinforcing a belief that women need men to take care of them.”

Image: amazonaws.com

Jeff is currently raising five daughters, two being 16 years old, one that is 13, and 12, and 7. All in the prime age of dating. Jeff states that he learns from his daughters, as much as they learn from him.

Image: cdn.24.co.za

Jeff states that he was a feminist long before he had daughters, and that “it wasn’t until I was blessed with the task of raising young women that I realized why: these girls are amazing humans, and I can take no credit for that other than the fact that I at least knew that the best thing I could do for them is not try to ‘mold’ them.”

Image: theatlantic.com

In his statements, Jeff says that it’s more important for women to change their perspectives, and learn from his story.

via: davidwalshblog.com

The statements Jeff is saying for his daughters are bold, but he feels he has the right, because he listens to what they have to say, and takes their opinions into account.

Image: buzzfeed.com

Jeff wants other fathers to learn from his experiences, and teach their daughters they don’t need their father’s approval on many of their decisions throughout life.

Image: cafemomstatic.com

Jeff states that he doesn’t want his daughters to think they don’t have his support, he just wants them to find out their own way, and come to him if they need his help.

Image: mamamia.com

If you’re a dad, and you’re reading this try it out! Next time your daughter brings home someone for prom, release the stern scowl, and loosen up the handshake. That’s a good start!

Image: oddee.com

Don’t want to give up that tough dad exterior? You can still wear the rules for dating my daughter shirts, but make it apparent your stance, you might just change another dad’s ways.

Image: imgix.net

There have been many times that dads have scared away potential life partners. Don’t be like that, and your daughter will be thankful you didn’t.

Image:cafemomstatic.com

Jeff’s story has already opened some dads up to new ways of thinking. He’s on the fast track to becoming the coolest father in law anyone could have.

Image: cosmopolitan.com

The biggest thing Jeff wants people to take away from his post is that his daughters never need a man’s approval, but they will always have him to go to for support.

20.
